Tired Of Being Afraid 2

Fear is often the opposite of faith. There are many things that I believe are the opposite of faith. At least they cannot exist side by side with faith. Unbelief, fear, worry, disobedience, insecurity and sorrow are some things that cannot long co-exist with faith.

Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

If one is filled with the Spirit he will be filled with love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: If he is filled with those things there won’t be any room for unbelief, fear, worry, disobedience, insecurity or interminable sorrow.

Fear is connected to self, selfishness and self-will. Fear is connected to sin. I don’t remember ever being afraid that God’s will wouldn’t be done. I have been afraid that my will might not be done. When I want the same things God wants I won’t have to be afraid. If I am afraid I can stop being afraid by changing the things that I want. I should want what God wants. Then I can be free from fear.

1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

There are some things we ought to fear. We ought to fear distrusting the Lord. And we ought to be afraid to trust in ourselves or other men.

Jeremiah 17:5: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

Jeremiah 17:7: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

We ought to be afraid to trust in what we can accomplish apart from God.

John 15:5: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

We are a little like a thermometer or a barometer. To the degree in which we are full of fear we are empty of faith. Fifty percent fear will limit faith to fifty percent. Ninety percent faith will limit fear to 10 percent and so on. More faith than fear is a happier way to live. Thank God that our fears and weakness do not change the fact that God is All-Powerful.

Isaiah and David had the solution to our fear problem.

Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Psalms 56:3: What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
